Two men charged with running over and killing a Grenada police officer are facing a trial for capital murder in the upcoming summer session of the Grenada County Circuit Court.
According to circuit court records, Kyle David Wendt, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Thomas Leland Lee, 41, of West Monroe, La., were bound over to the grand jury in January on the charges of receiving stolen property and capital murder stemming from the death of Capt. John Wayne Haddock on Oct. 7, 2011.
Haddock, 50, was attempting to put down spike strips when he was hit near the Highway 8-Interstate 55 overpass. He was assisting sheriff’s deputies in stopping the two suspects during a high-speed chase.
Wendt was reportedly the driver of the black Toyota that struck and killed the city policeman.
