By CHUCK HATHCOCK
Dominant is defined commanding or powerful.
This word best defines the Kirk Raiderettes basketball team over the past three seasons.
Heading into the District 1-AAA Tournament at Indianola Academy, Kirk needed two wins to make it to the 30-win mark for the third straight season.
They opened play in the semifinals against Indianola Academy. Kirk had little trouble, winning a 59-14 decision. In the championship game, the Raiderettes made it to the 30-win mark with a 72-25 decision over North Delta.
The championship gives Kirk four straight district tournament championships. It gives them the one of four top seeds in the upcoming North AAA Tournament, which was slated to start Monday at Leake Academy in Madden.
On the boys’ side, the Raiders downed Bayou Academy 55-35 to advance to the finals. It was a different story in the title game as Kirk lost a 49-31 decision to Greenville St. Joseph.
