Dr. Randy Poss has spent over three decades of his life in education.
He has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, he begins another chapter in his life, One that has him leading Kirk Academy as headmaster.
It’s an opportunity that Poss looks forward to, and he said he is excited about the challenge of leading a member of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.
“I’m excited about the chance and challenge to lead Kirk Academy,” Poss said. “The opportunity afforded to me from (chairman) Brent Thomas, and the rest of the board is one that I appreciate.”
Despite the timing being right, Poss said he still finds things still being surreal for him.
“There are times that I still have a hard time wrapping my head around what is going on,” Poss said. “It still seems surreal to me. I’m able to retire from a job that I have been doing all my adult life and continue to do something that I love to do, which is to educate kids.”
It was during Christmas break that Poss finally came to his decision about taking the Kirk job.
“We talked as a group and as individuals, looking at the pros and cons of the job,” Poss said. “In the end, we knew that it was the best thing for our family.”
