A Grenada pastor is in stable condition after being shot Monday, police say.
According to Interim Chief Russell Carver, the Rev. Perry L. Montgomery, 79, was shot four times with a small caliber handgun around 3:30 p.m. at his home at 348 Harvey St.
Rev. Montgomery is pastor of First New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
According to Carver, Montgomery didn’t initially call Grenada police. Instead, he had a friend drive him to the North Mississippi Medical Center branch in Eupora. He was then taken to Tupelo.
“We’re waiting on Mr. Montgomery to tell us more, and at this point we’re going only on what family members have told us,” said Carver.
